(1) What is a homestay?

Homestay is traditionally a form of study abroad program that allows the visitor to rent a room from a local individual to better learn the local lifestyle as well as improve their language ability. My homestay is unique since my home is much more nicely furnished than a typical homestay. It is “upscale”. I am also quite available to participate in friendly local activities with the guest and I am always available to answer any questions and be helpful. There is never meals furnished as the kitchen is fully equipped with high end appliances and every kitchen tool which could be needed. But, I am an excellent chef and I am frequently inviting homestay guests for “family” meals. We frequently go out to restaurants together depending on schedules. It is always a friendly, casual, peaceful, “chill” environment!

(2) How do I get to Castle Hills Mar Vista from San Diego Airport?

I can arrange to pick you up personally; advise you on the least expensive student car rental companies such as “Dirt Cheap Car Rentals”; or a taxi ride will be approximately $30.00 with tip.

(3) Is homestay Castle Hills Mar Vista in a safe place?

Pacific Beach is generally a safe area of San Diego. We walk or bike most places and walking back from the local bars at night is common. It is always recommended no matter where in the world you are, women should not walk alone at night. The house is on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and bars and is always locked and secure. If you go biking and stop off at a restaurant or grocery store, one should always lock your bike as you would anywhere else.

(4) Can I receive mail or packages at the homestay?

(5) How do I secure a rental?

A damage deposit is required on all rentals regardless of length of stay. The deposit is $500.00 US dollars and can be wired ahead to secure the rental agreement. Rental agreements are generally emailed  to the rentor to look over before arrival. Rental agreements are signed when you arrive. Dependent on length of lease/amount of time renting,…short term rentals are generally paid in full upon arrival and deposits are returned upon departure.

(6) Smoking/Drugs/Alcohol:

Smoking is never allowed in or near the property. There is never illegal drug use allowed. Alcohol is legal and allowed at homestay.
